Time flies :s

2010, a year of a great many adventures and discoveries, of ups and downs aplenty

Who'd imagined where i am now at the beginning of last year? certainly not me.

how different everything'd have been had i stuck to my original plan.

then came the life-altering offer (and very late it was) from utas, and my overseas journey began.

i have dabbled and experimented a great deal, and in the process made many insights and discoveries.

the new friends are awesome too :) we've had so much fun together going nuts haha

and honestly hobart ain't too bad, if you're a wannabe monk that is. place pratically becomes a ghosttown at night. meh all the better for studying starting next year.

the only two blights of the year: my incredibly persistent allergy to studying, which could very well have made me pay. luckily in the end i escaped disaster, only falling prey to T2-5 (twice), which i honestly don't give two hoots about. pending results which hopefully will go my way, i would have made it through first year without even really trying. for once i am underachieving. and that i WANNA change yeah :) i wanna do so much better

that and me losing my iphone by accident, which instantly led to this iphone shape and size crevasse opening up in my heart. DAMNIT. gahhhhh boooooooo whywhywhywhy sigh :/ man i don't think i will ever forget that haha

and now i'm home just relaxing and shaking my feet

i'm 19. gosh i feel so old :s

#2 even if you get desperately hungry, never ever EVER consume 6 bananas in 10 minutes. it just makes your stomach extrememly bloaty. and i'm not sure what the grossly elevated K+ levels is going to do (hopefully not a rigor-mortis-esque shock)

#3 anatomy is fun. sure you realise that you're gonna have to input neverending waves of info into your brain, and that you probably would have to skim through everything else, but what the heck? it's god-friggin' anatomy. <3 derek

#4 never wait till the last week to an exam before trying to cram 13 weeks worth of lectures into your head. preferably instead, start sooner? take it from me -.-

#5 themes 2-5 (clinical communication, community med, professionalism and stats) are mildly interesting stuff. unfortunately, they are also examinable. FML.

#6 do your best to emulate chuck (you know, flash flash kaboom?) if only it were possible :/ exams would be a breeze

#7 instant noodles /tick (excluding indomie?)
gotta love 'em. cheap and convenient :)

#8 blog when you're bored and your stomach is really bloaty.

cleaning up my room right now. it's amazing i now have more than twice the amount of free space on my table that before.

Mid Sem Break!

Rural Week!

was epic stuff. o camp clayton!

great fun :D

& lots of stuff

it hailed when we arrived at camp.

cant believe it snowed in hobart while we were gone. shucks.

anyway we got to visit the rural hospitals up north (interesting)

did a bit of clinical skills stuff, venipuncture on a fake arm, injecting stuff into oranges, lots of stuff (cool)

but the nights were simply awesome. sports & dota!!! (epic)

saw adrian's doppleganger in burnie RCS. (amazing)

lots of lame jokes and an epic fart thanks to yy (lol)

a pretty good vacation i reckon :D

yeah you guessed it. that's the unit i'm taking for semester 2.

i made it past 1st sem. bumpy ride though. 1st time i failed something =.=

had to do a supp for themes2-4. i swear all they wanted to accomplish with the exam questions was to mess up our heads. which they succeeded in doing.

seriously got me fearing the worst for awhile.

but heck i passed. yeay!

and onto sem 2, where we have to constantly juggle names of muscles and bones in our mind. anatomy ftw!

and the workload has pretty much begun. reflective essays. presentations. and the kfp project where we visit a family with a new born child over the course of 2 years as we learn about infancy and growth stuffs. hope it's interesting.

but the best part thus far are the dissections. so fun xD & really helpful for our learning. it almost makes my original decision to come so far worthwhile. but really the lecturers are awesome. dwight (morning y'all/tom cruise), derek (sheldon cooper/i'll rmb your name!), jamie(musleman lol) & co are really good. guess pang's advice actually paid off for once. would u believe that O.O

hope i make it through this sem alive then :D

of fishing

so i went on this 24 hour (original plan) deep fishing trip with my dad and a couple of his friends. and it turned out to be one pretty interesting experience.

we set off early and got to endau rompin port b4 noon and then we got on this pretty old dilapidated wooden boat helmed by some malay dude who had prolly been in the fishing business since forever and there we went. trying saying that in one breath haha :p

and so it happened to be pretty uneventful fishing (as anyone who has done this b4 would know) until it became nightfall.

we were supposed to hunt for squid. and just when we were putting our fishing gear in order,

it started to rain. and the rain only got heavier.

okay not very clear.

better.

we were forced to retreat under the roof of the boat to not get drenched. only thing was the roof itself was leaky. oh well. we couldnt go back cos it was raining too heavily. so we were stuck.

and there wasnt enuf space for the all of us to lie down, so i just sat next to the stove (the captain's help cooked onboard for us how cool is that) and stared into the distance.

mind u there wasnt much to see. but darkness. u couldnt really tell the horizon of the sea apart from the sky very well. and the water was totally dark. something like this...

yeah. how cool is that. it got me thinking about loads of stuff. like how or why we relate something we cant see or "darkness" to the unknown and the unknown to fear. it's human instinct. cool. but if u learn to recognise that feeling and detach from the emotions involved u could take it all into perspective and think from a purely objective standpoint. it was a fascinating experience just looking at the stuff around me. weird but interesting. i ramble a lot :p

after a while the rain lessened somewhat and we turned back to the port and crashed at a chalet b4 heading out early next morning. nothing much happened.

needless to say the trip wasnt particularly boutiful. has been that way for a few years already :x i guess this wont be the last time i go out though. my dad is totally INTO fishing. and being the eldest son... u know :x

just figured this place needed some noise.

it's been awhile :x ok i was a bit lazy la

it's been one month + since i last blogged. lots have happened in between.

during my sem break i went back to msia. i only stayed for 20 days, but what fun it was :D i beat danny at soul calibur xD

different yet familiar. that's what i felt seeing how much and how little had changed since i left. ppl going off to study. daniel got a gf (omg?!) but vivee is still a monkey for instance :p and i suppose to some extent i've changed as well. my overseas stint thus far has taught me much about lots of stuff. i feel much more confident, reassured and stronger deep down inside now :D but strangely enuf i didnt realise it at all until i got home. it was kinda weird. yet pleasing i suppose.

anyway i did my best to do as much stuff as i could, and boy was it fun (although tiring). went as far as help in kl and down south to jb. had fun thrashing myron in winning eleven :p and omg i really missed mamak & yamcha. now i feel hungry again =.=

anyway, good times were rekindled, new memories forged. all in all a good trip indeed :)

cant wait until nov!

World Cup OH YEAH

it comes around every 4 years. the biggest ( > olympics yes) sporting event on earth. the football world cup :D

i remember back when i was a kid football never really caught my eye. until the 2002 world cup that is. i remember brazil. i remember ronaldo. i remember the final. the goals. i remember south korea reaching the semi finals for the first time in any asian team's history, although admittedly aided by some pretty controversial refereeing decisions. and the passion and joy of the fans from the competing nations. my first real insight into the amazing world of football. and little did i know that soon enuf i'd be sucked into it, into becoming a bona fide footie fan i am today.

my interest continued after the world cup of 2002. i starting reading the sports sections of newspapers (mind you only that :/) and i followed the premier league season of 02/03. i remember man united losing to man city 1-0 the same day wayne rooney made his debut and scored that goal against arsenal. i watched a few matches without really supporting any team in particular. then the action heat up. i watched man united as they clawed back a seemingly impossible and hopeless 11 point deficit to overhaul arsenal and win the title. i was so impressed. the players the team became my heroes. lo and behold i was a red devil ever since.

but anyways back to the topic. the world cup. 32 nations compete for the ultimate honour of football world champions. it's a month's schedule of games with fabulous football action. a footie fan's heaven. sleepless nights & snacks maybe even beer with the company of friends (hopefully?). just awesome :)

my predictions? :p

spain look so good right now. their team is just so good. their keepers and midfield are second to none. only argentina can boast a better strikeforce. but the top favourtie never wins. will they manage to successfully avert this curse? my gut says no :p they are beatable after all (as proven by the US)

argentina would have been my pick to win but look whose in charge? maradona. first he leaves out cambiasso AND zanetti. then he brings palermo. the guy who missed 3 penalties in one game for argentina in 1998. /faints
argentina just lack the physical toughness and real defensive solidity. that could be their undoing :/

something tells me tht brazil is gonna come out on top in the end. dunga has done well. though he has made brazil a much more solid unit by sacrificing some or the usual flair. no ronaldinho? hmmm :l

there's england too. but IMO england just lacks 4 elements: a good second striker (heskey wont cut it), a great defensive midfielder (no hargreaves :( ), a more mobile central defender ( king is too slow & ferdinand injured and not on form), and world class keeper. calamity james ftw! they'll probably run into a strong team and get knocked out in the quarters.

dark horses? netherlands. they look good. and germany too.

the others: italy? too old. france? domenech. portugal? not good enuf.

and that's it folks! we'll see if i got it right. in one month's time.

the last episode was aptly named so. and what a beautiful ending it was.

and so ends an amazing journey, 6 seasons spanning 7 short years, all the way back from when i was still in form 1. it really seems like such a long time ago. i vaguely remember camping out in the living room everyday watching way too much tv than a 13 yo ever should. it's a miracle i dont need glasses :/

and well, lost was just one of the many shows i took up watching. little did i know how it'd turn out. i guess at first i was really intrigued by the huge shroud of mystery surrounding the island where flight 815 from sydney to LA crashed and landed, leaving 108 of its passengers stranded. it was great.

and i stuck to the show, watching the characters grow and find their way, the mysteries unfold, more mysteries born, and the story slowly unravelling.

from the flashbacks to the flashforwards and then to the flashes involving a parallel existence, it was all so awesome. but the show really had me at the polar bears. haha. taht was the first real mindblowing moment i experienced watching the show, of which many (and i mean A LOT) followed. i was so scared in the beginning lol.

from the others, the dharma initiative, the hatches (or dharma stations), smokey (cue classic chirping and ticking sound), the people, the bones, the numbers (4,8,15,16,23,42), "the purge", the temporal displacements, candidates, jacob and his nemesis, the light, the suprises and mysteries in store were endless. another thing i just loved.

the story plot is brilliant. everyone, everything is connected with one another, and to the island.

and the fact remains that lost is the only show i have seen which actually recovered from a weak season (season 2 was a bit too mindboggling @.@) and come back stronger then ever, maintaining that momentum brilliantly until the final episode. plenty of shows just slid down and never got back on their feet. not lost. never has there been a dull moment. each episode has its suprises and tricks in store. i have lost count of the times i have gone "oh my gosh/gawd!" haha

and suprisingly enough for a show of this genre (mystery), lost is a show that puts u through a whole rollercoaster of emotions. scary, exciting, sad, deeply moving, and empty (at the end of each season while having to wait for the next), i have never watched a show which has more emotional depth than this T.T the musical soundtrack was amazing, and carried each scene with such aplomb. i will always remember the violin music that was played when the oceanic six stepped off the plane and returned from the island... it was so touching :)

most amazingly, it has to be said that even i, being a huge fan, truly have a lot about the show that i dont understand perfectly. like what exactly made smokey? what do the numbers mean? what was the electromagnetic event? how? why? a whole bunch of questions inside my head. it's part of the charm, taking that leap of faith, and the unknown and uncertainty that is always there. a lot of the details are so blurry to me, though i am not sure if i should rewatch it from scratch (though i really want to), for it may ruin the whole experience. i guess somethings just dont have to be all perfectly clear and understood. like this.

lost has divided opinion very much, not having a lotta viewers in asia, but it's critically acclaimed and is seriously popular (HOT!) in the US, spawning a whole generation of lost-maniacs, like yours truly. amazing, it truly is.

it's the end. haiz. i feel kinda empty. lost has really been more than just a tv show to me. i dont exactly understand why. but it has certainly had a great impact on my views and thoughts and even emotions. wooooooo. BEST SHOW EVER! :P

8th june: summative theme 1,
10th june: summative themes 2 to 5 (god help me T.T)

then 3 weeks of holiday!
until 11th july. still figuring out what to do then. :/ suggestions?

I still vaguely remember doing this essay about home in my tee finals last year. don't really remember what i wrote. just knew i blabbered quite a lot :/

anyway hmmmm where do i begin... thought of doing this while watching some vids of namewee on youtube. yes the namewee who burst onto the scene amongst such controversy with his rather unorthodox (shall we say) rendition of the national anthem a few years ago. and that was just the beginning of a lot more work. he dares to protest the unjustness and inefficacy of the government where others cower in silence. His methods are unique. Catchy music videos with obscenity laden lyrics no? he truly divides opinion like no other. but meanwhile his videos on youtube have gotten like 600k hits. that goes to show the extent of his influence O.o personally i like the guy. he can sing. he can rap well. also, he has courage.

but above all, after all the ensuing mayhem caused by his work, unlike so many of our countrymen, he came back to malaysia. and stayed. this shows how much he cares for our country. and hopes for change. after all, it's our home, is it not?

sadly though, that view does not hold true for many of us. how many of us have given up already? and moved onto supposedly greener pastures abroad? far too many. and that is partly why malaysia is so deeply mired in mediocrity now. call me a dreamer but i still hope. To leave would mean throwing so much away. what of our forefathers who worked so hard to help shape this nation? is it all to be for naught? D:

for us ppl who have had great fortune in being able to pursue our studies abroad, to leave would in my opinion, be unfair to those who cant get out. our families, friends, the poor, ... so many people could use our help. i cant help but think that leaving would in a way surmount to abandonment (or to put it bluntly, betrayal). not all hope is lost.

Winds of change swept across the country in march 2008. it remains to be seen whether this will lead to something better in the future. i do dream but i also know if things go on as they are now, the living situation in malaysia will eventually become untenable (for non-malays at least). that would spell the end to the vision of a true 1malaysia. not to mention it being a huge step backwards and worse to follow most certainly.

So i hope things will change. it has to. is there another way? we'll see.

Good things and bad things

this cold, at times breezy weather. means i never have to refrigerate my beer. i prefer chilled beer. speaking of which i have been drinking quite a bit :/ bbq meat & beer on chilly nights. great.

and yeah hobart has a cinema that isnt too bad. it's actually pretty okay. some semblance of civilisation (at last!). though what is the deal with all seats being at the same height. this guy with big hair was blocking my view of the screen =.= and the crazy boring commercials (almost died waiting). i wish i knew we could just sneak in without paying O.o $$$! for just the two hours watching the movie, i just forgot where i was, a couple thousand miles (hazarded a guess) away from home. guess kluang/jb and hobart have something in common finally. moviessssss :D

bad news: 3 weeks of holidays at least starting around 17 june. wish i hadnt listened to the unit outline (it said 23 june). looks like i'll be spending those 3 weeks of wintertime in tassie. unless if i can get cheap tickets back home, however unlikely it may be (very). i shall continue to hope.

one month to the exams. tut tut time to study :O

Easter Movie List!

Gotta love good movies with great endings. totally amplifies the whole cinematic experience. makes them even more awesome :D

a strong finish just makes a movie so much more memorable. leaves a lasting impression. but some movies just die out after some nice parts. have u seen the knowing? nicholas cage? u;d know what i'm talking bout.

so i managed to watch a few movies during easter. i;d just camp out in my parents hotel room at night and watch the tv. mind u i dont have a tv where i'm staying right now so... i indulged myself a bit :P

it's been a weird easter holiday list.

firstly the brothers bloom. quirky tale about two brothers both professional conmen weaving a complex tale as they try to con a rich epileptic photographer played by rachel weisz. yes u heard me. great movie. loved the ending. sad yet sweet.

then the next day i watched around the world in 80 days. yes. the jackie chan version. not gonna talk about it. urgh.

followed by new moon of the twilight series. fyi i did not watch twilight. nor have i read the books. boring movie. was kinda hoping for whatshisnameagain edward and jacob? to rip each other to shreds and spare me a sequel. well that didnt happen. bummer D:

and i just finished watching shutter island. and it was good. but the ending really blew my mind. WoW. go watch it guys. really. amazing ending.

so that just leaves a few movies for me to watch like invictus, the informant, up, up in the air (lol), hurt locker(maybe), the blind side(maybe) and some others cant really recall them rite now. any suggestions guys? anyway...

not to mention a whole bunch of tv shows. dont mean to brag but i managed to finish 4 seasons of 30 rock in a month lol. that's 72 episodes. while i'm supposed to be studying mbbs. and now i'm starting the 3rd season of the office and moving fast. and there's lost, chuck, house and lots more. i know i know. i'm crazy :P

anyway cant get that ending outta my mind. it;s just THAT good.

that's roughly how long it's been since i landed in tassie.

and things are going alrite i guess. pretty much settled down, handled everything, banks, accom, books & lots of stuff. studies on the other hand...

as always, my overwhelming tendency to procrastinate led to me building up a mountain-like backlog of work. which i'll have to cram into the next few days, just b4 the big exam on friday. how fun T.T

got to go around with my parents & tour a bit of tassie. it's actually a pretty nice place to travel round. when it's just not that bloody cold. winter's coming urgh

anyway, i solemnly swear to NOT play com games during weekdays. yes. THIS IS IT. it's been one day and my brain is itching for games already. not easy :/ but for the sake of my studies, i gotta do it. somehow.

kangaroos are soooooooo adorable. like bunnies. furry and cuddly. and they hop around a lot. only bigger and cooler. BUT they can stand on their hind legs omg. like tiny little t-rexes with their stubby front paws rawr. omg :X

so, 50 days, during which:

Chua soi lek won. and immediately called for unity. we'll see how it goes w that political bandwagon.

tiger woods coming outta self imposed exile. can he return to winning ways? i wouldnt bet against it. :/

Apco linked to 1malaysia? fodder for political squabble. yet again. sometimes i wonder if they'll ever be able to sit down and have a nice polite conversation. is that too much to ask?

is just around the corner. starts next thursday! one full week w/o classes lectures tutorials presentations bla bla bla. isnt that great :D

Guess i'm still stuck in holiday mode. no suprise there.

Anyway it's friday night. thank goodness. i managed to survive yet another pile up of assignments. why must it always be friday eh? :/

Neway my parents are coming down to tassie to visit. landing tmr. Yeay! Tassie Tour! i've pretty much been stuck in the city thus far. Finally i'll get to go around tassie a bit. Time to take some photos. Nice :D

Did i mention the weather in tassie is really weird? yeah it is. really. damn. freaky. Anything's possible. Tassie weather = 4 seasons in a day :S

Week 4 schedule is horrible zzz

Mon to Wed classes finish at 5. not great, but still... not that bad either. i can take that.

med check up for visa on monday afternoon. forcing me to skip 2 lectures. and i am already way behind :(

formative mcq exam on thursday. okay... argh

1st aid course on saturday 9 to 4. which means no relaxing over the weekend. damn.

but the real clincher here is the 1.5k to 2k word reflective essay due on tues(die) or fri (hopefully for the love of god be friday >.<) and the guide itself is 16 pages long. 5 stages of reflection, gibbs model, brookefields model, SOLO taxonomy. but the thing is even after reading that whole thing like 2 times i still have no idea how to start =.=lll WHAT THE HELL @#&^%@$#$^&

lots of revision to catch up on =.=lll why do i procrastinate so much urgh

saving grace is that i did my cbl last week so i dont have to do it again this week. thank god. wonder how the others gonna cope O.o

didnt notice but it's almost a month since i landed in tassie. time flies. and i have not managed to cook one single proper meal in one month =.=lll typical.

monday was a tasmanian holiday. initially was thinking of going to the morris miller library on main campus to study. but then it rained. and so i stayed indoors & watched the oscars instead. i know lol. pathetic rite. :P

actually thought this year's ceremony was not bad. liked the alec baldwin/steve martin act. joking all the way. some of the presenters did good too :) i think neil patrick harris sang :/

decent actors act. good actors make it look easy. and good actors make good movies.

and i LOVE good movies :D

anyway in conclusion i wasnt suprised avatar lost out. hurt locker won hmmm. sandra bullock won the oscars & the razzies @.@ lots of news.

i watched the oscars from start to finish. or most of it anyway. at the expense of my revision time sigh. that's me. how m i gonna survive...

i digress.

must watch movie list for 2010: hurt locker, the blind side, invictus, alice in wonderland, iron man bla bla bla...

Or in other words the foundations of medicine. that's the unit i'm doing this sem. yeah. it's finally begun. uni life. feels surreal. ya know. like finally. i'm here. officially a university student. that reality seemed so far away back then. but here i am. movin' on...

anyway it's been 3 weeks since i landed in tassie & a fortnight since my course started. so far i'm still stuck in holiday mode. yeah i know. gotta pull myself together. somehow lol. argh...

weather totally unpredictable. or at least it seems that way. somedays it's pretty warm. sometimes it's freezing cold. autumn just begun btw. temp scale keeps jumping about like a crazy rabbit. which reminds me i gotta watch alice in wonderland sometime. hope it's good. :/

back to the course... so far okay. lots of info. so far i've managed to push studying far away from my thoughts. typical of me. still slacking lol. wont last though. eventually i will get serious. i hope :S

curriculum's all organised & complicated stuff. 5 themes. cbl presentations every week. stands for case-based learning btw. and i'm doing a topic called teamwork in action this week. 10 minutes. on my own. how ironic @.@ i'll figure it out somehow.

wish the new med science building wasnt so far away from the main campus in the city though. nvr get to meet many ppl from outside of med. oh well u cant have everything i guess. building looks cool inside out though :)

i joined the med students society (here they call it tumms) and the 1st thing they did was offer me 6 cans of free beer. lol. everybody drinks. guess i gotta get used to it.

110+ students in my batch. alone. so far i dunno most of 'em. but thats normal. after all its only just begun. met some ppl already. not bad for a start i reckon.

来到美国已经有一段时间了。我极其后悔当初的选择。一直都被西方媒体所蒙蔽欺骗，让我错误地以为美国是一个科技发达，工业成熟的现代化国家。怀着学习美国先进科技报效祖国的豪情，我翻山越岭来到了这个“强大”的国度。可是结果让我大失所望！互联网的起源之地连下载盗版的网站都没有！我才发现我居然一直被蒙在鼓里这么多年！

美国真的是个还未经开发的大农村！

在中学时，老师们就教过工业越发展，环境就会遭到破坏。比如咱们的工业城市沈阳，到处都是大烟囱，到处都是大工厂。街道灰尘比较多。这都是工业化的象征啊！中国产品已经占领了美国市场。在美国到处都可见“中国制造”，就连厕所里放用过的厕纸的盒子都是来自中国的，这让我非常骄傲！可是美国呢？极少见到烟囱，偶尔见到小小的几个，还是别墅装饰用的，到处都是清澈见底的河流和湖泊，河边也没有造纸厂啊，炼钢厂啊什么的。简直没有一点工业化的影子！

—— 除了几个少数的大城市外，根本没有什么高楼大厦。我刚到美国时，飞机快降落，我看到纽约边上大片大片小平房，错以为到了柬埔寨。

——美国人的思想也比较单纯，完全是没有开化的表现。美国的高速公路四通八达，可是完全没有收费站！这么好的巨大商机居然白白浪费！我恨不得马上用水泥在这些路上筑几收费站，不出一个月，肯定可以在西海岸或者迈阿密买带花园的的海景别墅。还有，公路边随处可见宁静，还未开发的湖泊，go-vern-ment 宁愿让水鸟随便栖息拉屎，也不会开发个湖景花园来大赚一笔。可见美国人毫无经济头脑。曾经有一个著名的美国经济学家曾经说过：“中国的经济学家里，真正可以称得上经济学家人，不会超过五个。”我简直要笑掉大牙了，连这么简单的赚钱机会都看不到的美国人，居然说中国没有经济学家？我看美国经济才是停留在原始社会。
　　
——说到水泥和混凝土，我简直不敢相信美国几乎没有混凝土的建筑，他们的房子大部分都是木头和一些奇怪的材料建成的。用原始的木头做房子，看来洋人们的建筑水平还只停留在中国清朝以前啊！

——洋人们简直就是单纯无知到了极点，根本不惧怕和陌生说话，替陌生人做事。我刚到纽约的时候，在肯尼迪机场一个行李车要3美圆。我没有零钱，一个美国人看见我行李很多，就替我出了三美圆并把车推到我面前，我想起小学时老师说过人贩子一般都是用小恩小惠引诱并拐卖孩子和妇女的，我白了他一眼，拖着我的行李艰难的往相反的方向走了……后来我才发现这是美国人幼稚的表现，他们会随便把书包啊，电脑啊什么的放在图书馆门口，大树底下，完全不怕小偷，真是一点警惕感都没有；他们还随时会给你开门，随时会把车停下要“give me a ride”，随时会问需不需要帮助……我才不会上洋人的当呢，因为我知道“不能和陌生人说话”。

——美国人开车的方式也很奇怪，马路上很多车，却听不见喇叭声。街道安静得不像街道，一点省会城市的热闹和人气都没有。最可怕的是，有一天晚上我和同学开车去另一个城市，忽然从路中间跑出几只马鹿来，同学眼疾手快刹了车才免了一场“马鹿的自杀性撞车事件”，据说这样的事经常发生，有时候一头鹿就可以毁了一辆车。美国go-vern-ment也不知道管管，连马鹿都管不好，还要整天张罗着要打伊朗，真不知道布什吃饱了在想什么。还不只马鹿呢，据说树林里还有熊和狐狸，野鸟和松鼠随时光顾厨房就更不用说了。美国人整天就和这些动物住在一起，根本就是原始社会。

——学校里的教授一点都架子都没有，完全没有学者尊贵的风范。D教授据说是美国著名的心理学家，可是课间休息的时候居然和学生在教室里大吃饼干，大侃《24》和《越狱》。一点学术的威严都没有，我简直失望死了。还有，刚上两星期课就要测验，第三个星期要交book review，要求读10多本书，一学期要两个paper。我说您都整到教授了还一天到晚这么认真负责干吗？也不知道去当个引进教授不干白拿钱。

—— 还有，美国人看点小病都要给自己制造麻烦。先得跟医生预约，看完病，医生给开药方。有些人还得咨询药师。买药得自己去超市买，不像咱们那块儿，看完病拿着医生龙飞凤舞的处方在医院直接买药就行了。可见美国医院又不会赚钱了，干吗告诉病人药名啊？在医院直接买，把药价翻个8倍10倍的，多好的生意不会做，可见资本主义市场经济真的不活啊，唉。

——美国人人人都开车，可是却连小摩托车都没见过，可见见识之少。学校里有一个非洲学生，为了方便和便宜就不知从哪里搞来一个女式小摩托车，在校园里开的时候，美国人都觉得他很“alien”，真是少见多怪。美国人要来到咱们国家，特别是南宁海口什么的，那还不被那汹涌的小摩托车大潮吓死。

——有时候对美国人的无知和愚蠢我完全失去了耐心。比如当他们知道中国有电视台和报社的时候，居然无知的问我：“中国有报纸啊？！”简直太岂有此理了，咱们中国不但有中文报纸，而且我们的报纸都是精心加工制作的，才不像美国报纸乱七八糟的舆论，把人头都搞晕了。

——还有我最受不了的就是，大部分美国人吃饭前都要做什么祷告，星期天都去什么礼拜，美圆上都印什么“In God We Trust”，美国人还天真的说：“上帝保佑美国”，完全是胡说八道嘛，上帝保佑美国，怎么还让美国如此落后，如此原始，还让美国人民如此单纯幼稚啊。所以我还是相信毛主席的“人定胜天”，我的祖国靠着类似的一些伟大观点，为这个地球创造了多少让人惊叹的奇迹啊！

——另外我很怀疑互联网是不是美国人发明的，简直就是落后的石器时代了，他们的Google.com连音乐都没有，瞧瞧咱们的Google.cn，瞧瞧咱们的Baidu，或者随便个什么小网站都可以免费下载音乐，游戏，电影，所有收费产品都能免费得到，怎么和中国迅猛发展的互联网比啊，所以Google肯定是模仿咱们的 Baidu，再一看那个Fackbook，怎么和校内网一样啊。反正美国人是抠门，小气，一点分享精神都没有，说是什么非法传播，简直是没开化过的原始人啊，连听歌都要在那个什么iTunes上面花钱买，真是幼稚，愚蠢到家了！

——说到幼稚，愚蠢，小气，抠门那还是因为他们太穷闹的啊！他们一杯咖啡只买0.99美元，什么汽车啊，电脑啊那就更便宜了，那消费水平就和中国的农村偏远地区一样。还有他们的大公司企业根本就要靠中国才能生存的，美国现在特火的那个Apple公司的手机，后边都刻着“Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China”，我感到很自豪，咱们中国的制造工艺是世界第一的，没咱们他们美国连个手机都没有技术制造。

——总之，在美国的每一天，我都会深深的想起我的故乡和那些勤劳勇敢的中国人民。

Yeah i realise i havent really updated my blog this month. been pretty busy with settling down in hobart i guess. and oh yeah i just got my room :)))) a couple of streets away from the med science building. $112.5 per week (approximation of all costs included except food) ! omg save $$$

Live from Tassie!

And so here i am, in the southernmost part of the land down under, enrolling in what claims to be geographical location-wise, the southernmost uni in the world - the university of tasmania. or so they say. is that true? i m not sure :/

quite a big change, from monash kl to utas eh? guess that's life. full of unpredicatble twists & turns. and boy am i gonna experience life to the fullest!

to tell ya the truth, i really wasnt sure if my decision was correct. had a lotta second thoughts after i accepted the offer from utas ( and i was given only one afternoon to decide =.= ). i doubted myself. not for the first time anyway. :X

i was apprehensive. scared. excited. and confused. it's perhaps the bravest and toughest decision i've made in my life (hey it's true!) . to leave behind my friends, family (or in short everyone i know) & a life that i was so familiar with, in a country i'd spent almost my entire life in for a modest uni in a foreign country. in retrospect, i guess it wasnt that easy. and i am hoping it all works out well.

it had better. i missed cny for the first time in my life just to enrol. steep price to pay. T.T My ang pows...

it's been over 24 hours since i landed in tassie (flight tickets exp :[) and my verdict? it's pretty nice. the weather is very cool (even though it's summer) and the scenery is very very much to my liking. the uni's quite nice and the people have been very helpful too. the prices, maybe not so great, but still, hey i suppose you cant be too greedy eh? they're still relatively cheap though. imagine a subway six incher for 4.45 aussie dollars!!! haha :)

there's so much to do. bank accounts. accomodation. student visa. medical checkup. national police check. clubs & societies. i have to balance all that on top of my studies. it's a challenge. & i think i am gonna learn a lot from this studying experience. hope to get a pr & do my housemanship in aussie! but that's a long long loooong time away so let's not get ahead of myself. handle everything one at a time.

oh yeah i havent taken any pics yet lol. been really busy. dont rush me!

An Ode to 2009

Well about time. i have kinda been putting off writing this post for a while (dont scoff i know it's already been a month :P). Stuff happened. In a couple of weeks i'll be heading up to kl and starting my studies. Monash kl. A new adventure on the horizon. wonder how it'll be hmmm.

Speaking of adventures the last year has been, simply put, quite a revelation. To think everything would have happened exactly as it did, from the beginning right till the end. I would never have imagined it. Still does amaze me quite a bit in retrospect. so much to say bout it & i m not sure where to start hmmm.

Lots of changes. and stuff. and memories of course :)

i've changed. so much that i feel like a totally different person. last year was quite the learning experience. living out on my own w/o my family. in a different city. meeting new people. going new places. new experiences. but most important of all, new friends. Great great friends. Simply awesome T.T all the stuff we did together. moments to cherish. you guys made my year so much more eventful, exciting, lively, and most importantly, FUN! thanks a million! haha! XD

Anyway back to the topic. i've changed lol. so much so i dont rmb much of my old self anymore. which is fine with me coz i like the new me a lot better. i vaguely rmb being this socially- stunted introvert who was just stepping into a new strange world and knew nothing of it. and it's been more than a year since then. my mind, thoughts & perspective are so much more wider & in depth than it was at 1st. unlike the old me. how things have changed. for the better. one thing i know is that i'd have become a totally different person had i gone to taylors. instead suddenly there were a change of plans and i decided to go to jb. and i know i made perhaps the best choice of my life thus far. hold that thought. it just makes me smile :)

We did so much together in 09. we shared so many memories. although we were (or at least i was) practically half dead at times (studies urgggh) struggling to finish assignments projects and bascially everything the lecturers could throw at us, we managed to find time a bit here and there to go out, hang out and bascially just have loads of fun.

i rmb... countless trips to movie theatres ( 1st was uninvited last was avatar), karaoke (pang is god), yamcha sessions (ramly!) , futsal ( i still have a big bruise on my left knee :/) , paintball (ouch), badminton (i'll crush ya XD), steamboats (yum yum twice!) suba's open house, ika's open house and also pang's, where everything began :) and so many more special occasions. masquerade ball (fancy), monash trip (ice-skating! big fall :[). there was the freshies night & the pangkor trip, both of which i missed ( i still cant bring myself to look at the pics of the latter >.< jealousy) and the AWESOME kluang trip XD (of course wat). & m group provided plenty of classic moments & entertainment too! Nice one leaw!

and it was a year of firsts. paintball, ice-skating, mazda & audi rides (yes that's special XD) , shissha, doulos, my 1st church service (damn daniel) et cetera. i stayed over at not 1, not 2, but 7 friends' houses lol. let's see pang, yee han, jy, sean, danny, daniel & last but not least, myron. that's 7 & still counting. anyway i know i tried a lot of new stuff but i seem to be getting a mind freeze just bout now hmmm. anyway whatever they were, those were good times. aint feelin no bad vibes. just good. indeed :)

and well this is prolly enough bout ausmat 09. if i wrote at length i'd prolly never finish until i compiled everything into a long novel. that's just me :/

to all ausmatians, jan & march, thanks for everything. maybe as a gesture of thanks i will write down a post bout you ausmatians lol. yeah maybe i should. if i get inspired. :P moving on...

And so it happened that EV's birthday was on the 7th. and so a bunch of us went over to his place to celebrate. had a rockin good time. played heart attack and chatted a bit. Nice food too. Thx for the hospitality man :)

Anyway something extremely lou happened during our karaoke session. ya know those typical karaoke vids (not the original) that show bikini girls on beaches or scenic spots and stuff? yeah something happened then. unforgettable. guess what he said.

daniel took one look at the girl in the bikini and said: “我喘了！” English translation: I cannot breathe properly (in other words gasping for air). and he actually did lose his breath. wtf man.

he took one look at her and couldnt breathe. he even said that out loud. we all just collapsed into laughter. i mean wth. the girl wasnt even hot. not even close to miss universe material. so so figure only lurh. might have been a milf. omg wtf >.<

originally wanted to blog bout somthing else entirely but couldnt bring myself to do it. just so tired. No idea why at all. I m getting plenty of rest but i m tired.

guess it's just the clouds that obscure my future. or maybe not. where should i go? or rather where do i wanna go? that's still unknown.

after college ended i just felt i lost and gained somethings.

Days trudge by without much activity. i doubt the meaning of my existence at times. Being with friends yeah that's great. but when i m on my own it is so... whatstheword strangely slightly depressing i guess. loneliness? maybe. i always felt maybe i was always too emotionally reliant on my friends but if u take that away what would i be?i m confused. i think too much for my own good urggghh.

maybe i should get a job. part time. just to jolt me awake from this slumber of sorts. but i dun really wanna work on my own. so i guess it will all boil down to nothing. as usual. i never get anything done right. i'll just rot at home while waiting for some answers. barring the occasional outing of course.

and so i guess i'll wait. what other choice is there

seriously i should stop thinking about stuff altogether and just enjoy a well deserved rest. sometimes i guess it wouldnt hurt to be a simpleton like danny chung kwong sun lol. peachy.

P.S. I m lagging behind in my blogging i shohld blog more i should blog more so much to write about yet i havent done so. that's just typical of me i guess. the perpetual procrastinator i m. feel slightly better after doing this post :)

TER of 98.7?! Simply magical. Pretty high beyond my expectations. Wow on cloud nine :)

Not bad for a year of brutally hard work. i still rmb the times i was stretched to the limit. Twice.

Road Rage

Nah. just plain safe driving. me in the driver's seat. with hands on steering wheel. safe driver =/

Anyway back to the point six months after learning how to drive and getting my license in record time (4 days)...

i finally get to drive!!! Yeah! Haha! :)

I nvr got the chance to drive coz i was in jb studying duh.

Granted it's a 14 (15?) year old volvo with a past history of problems that'll make you faint e.g.

no remote control to lock unlock. signal interferes with engine function.

Speedometer permanently showing 0 km/hr. damnit i wouldnt be able to know how fast i go!

Screeching brakes. the bad kind. imagine nails across a chalkboard. no kidding.

engine failure for no reason. many many times. it seemed impossible to even start the car. =X

the list goes on...

But the last service job did improve things somewhat. and now i get to drive a car WOOOO!

After two times out driving around with my mom she let me drive on my own. and i dutifully obliged :) went everywhere today haha

bad thing though is that now that finally we have a 4th driver in the house, i hv been put in charge of chaffeur duty >.< ferrying my siblings around to badminton classes school town bla bla

urggggggh. well at least i can scare them a bit. or not. Muahahahaha!!!

I dun feel so good. no kidding.

My knees r weak. my head kinda dizzy. a lurch in my gut every time i see the time & date.

all the energy's been sucked outta me. all i feel like doing is staring at the com screen the whole day. doing nothing but watching shows. gahh!

but it's inevitable. time nvvr stops (though sometimes we wish it would)

it's gonna happen. then some stuff will become clearer i guess

for now though utter confusion (gulps)

oh well nothing to do but wait. and hope. AND watch Chuck :)

Gearing up for the future!

Holmes!

Nothing to do after a few days of crazy fun. so i went out w my bro to see Holmes. Quite enjoyable. :)

Firstly though i gotta admit to being a HUGE sherlock holmes fan. i have read all of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's tales at least 3 times. O.o

what can i say? to me, Holmes is the absolute epitome of systematic & logical thought. his methods to analysing & solving cases were really intriguing. deriving answers & putting together pieces of complex puzzles from the simplest observations. Only one word to describe him - Brilliant.

Bout the characters first.

Robert Downey Jr as Holmes? a logical choice. He did a pretty good job in my opinion. He created a new holmes. Injected a roguish streak into the holmes of lore. More arrogant and maybe a tad bit more vulnerable (to women). Well deserving of his GG nomination :)

Jude Law as watson was unexxpected but the guy does know how to act. pretty good foil for downey's holmes. They tweaked the story a bit to get holmes a love interest in the form of the indomitable Irene Adler. Nice idea. the only woman to outwit holmes twice was played by Rachel McAdams. and well she was more than competent (& hot!) . Holmes's adversary Lord Blackwood was creepy good. Great cast :)

The story itself was brand new. a blend of science and supernatural stuff. More specifically Science versus the Supernatural. or Holmes vs Blackwood. Nice Job Guy Ritchie! (I didnt know anything about the guy except that he was married to Madonna. pity the guy :[ )

Not gonna say anything about the story here. that would take too long too long =X

The music score was quaint and pretty good. At times a bit too rich but still good.

Recommended watch! I give it 8/10!

P.S. Cant wait for the sequel! Holmes vs Moriarty?! that's AWESOME! Hopefully Mycroft (whose wit surpasses that of sherlock though not his physicality) will make an appearance too! i m a bit too greedy rite haha!

For about a week. i'll only be back in malaysia on the 23rd after midnight. just finished packin my luggage.

First time celebrating my birthday overseas O.o there's another first.

and well coz i dun hv a 3g phone nor internet access probably u guys wont see me or hear from me until i get back onto malaysian shores :( No need to sms me either.

means i cant respond to any bd wishes or anythin hmmm. too bad XD i'll settle them afterwards.

Heard a lot bout this movie. Many ppl said it was freaky. Disturbing even. Made them sleepless.

and so i was bored one afternoon. & guess wut? the movie was available on pps. And ya know wut happened next. Duh.

Okay hmmm wut's this movie about? Copied from the official website:

"After a young, middle class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban “starter” tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night.

Especially when they sleep. Or try to."

Check out this trailer if ya're interested. It captured the reactions of the audience during the movie premiere in california. for me, it wasnt a big deal. It was for Yee Han though. Girls screaming seems to have some sort of effect on him. Incidentally He was the one who told me to watch the movie. Go figure. =/

Doubt anyone's gonna even go see that. Oh well. Moving on...

What the brief synopsis above doesnt mention is that micah (i thought his name was nika zzz) & katie are very annoying. the former is pretty much annoying all the time no matter wut he's doing. especially when he's around cameras. katie coz her voice is kinda high pitched. and she screams a lot. plus she's really really timid. =.=lll

And oh yeah, the whole film was filmed documentary style.

Reminds me of cloverfield & district 9. One so-so the other great. I'm sure ya know which is which. Do you? O.o

Anyway, Katie's been seeing & feelin' "supernatural" stuff since young. And that thing whatever it is, followed her everywhere and now finally to the house she shares with micah (urggghh how could it be?). Weird stuff happens it seems. to her anyway. Micah doesnt really believe in the supernatural though. So... someone (probably micah) has an epiphany... why not just spend loads of cash setting up video cameras from strategic angles al over the house to capture the thing(s) that's haunting it? Micah's palpable excitement suggested he'd been waiting for an excuse to do something like that all his life. Camwhore. =P

Warning! Spoiler alert!

Weird stuff begins to get caught on tape during the couple's sleep. Doors moving slightly (that counts? =.=), lights turned on and off (zzz) at first. The couple got pretty excited over nothing. In fact, the first 50 minutes of the film consisted of absolutely nothing interesting. BORING -.-

Things got marginally more interesting later. Weird sounds. Nightmares. then They discovered footprints. Something caught on fire. Doors slamming shut. Katie got all weird. Walking out from the room twice. Getting dragged out from bed by something invisible only to be saved by Micah. First she'd decide to leave the house, but when the time came, she refused, sayin stuff like "i'm fine" and "i dun wanna leave". She did that twice =.= & Quarreling with Micah over nothing was kinda stupid. Gradually katie was reduced to a blabbering fool who lay down on couches and the bed a lot.

and well, the ending to the movie... hmm well let's say it was suprisingly predictable. (oxymoron! yeah! XD ) lacked imagination in some parts. says a lot bout the movie when an ending like this is actually the best part of it. Here's wut happened:

1) Katie got up (again urghh)
2) Stood there for 3 hours
3) went downstairs and screams
4) Micah wakes and rushes downstairs
5) Screams stop
6) Katie comes up and lays down by the bed with bloody knife in hand (of course =.=)
7) remains in catatonic state for 2 days, after which police arrive and she wakes, only to be shot by police when door suddenly slams
8) rolling credits/ the end

Only things suprising bout Micah's death was how sudden it was. and that we didnt get to see his blood getting spilled (bummer >.<). gotta admit though the sight of katie sitting by the bed, her head bobbing back & forth, fingers still grasping onto the bloodied knife, seemingly oblvious to the passage of time and the eerie silence was a bit creepy. or freaky. But that was it. So...

I give Paranormal activity 5/10! Up to ya if u wanna watch but u can just skip the 1st 40 minutes... deducted 0.5 for that =/

Steamboats

Went for steamboat with a few ausmatians today. Correction: Free-for-all Buffet Steamboat! XD Let's see... with leaw, nat, jy, DaNnY, Yee Han & Pang. 7 in total. Stomach full now! Nice! =)

the 2nd time i went 4 steamboat in jb this year alone. Same place. Enjoyed myself quite a bit. the food was awesome. the ppl were awesome. and well some of us did get to watch a sideshow heihei. if ya noe wut i mean. well, it Sure brought back memories from the 1st steamboat. on the saturday night few days rite after our mid year EE. Roughly 5 months ago.

5 months... that's a pretty long time isnt it? to the contrary. wut puzzles me now is how time seems to hv just flown by so fast. in almost no time at all. Guess time is relative. flies by when u r having fun. 4th dimension @.@ (einstein's theory of relativity?) Neway i remember lots of stuff throughout the course of the year. So much in fact that it's suprising. I guess the human brain has capacity for lots of stuff. =/

Some things came to the realisation of my mind as i sat there enjoying the chatter, the food & ppl. In between those 5 long months, lots of stuff hv happened. much has changed. and yet some things havent. But Ppl... or rather, friends? Nothing much different i guess. Same old, same old. with quite a few more additions from march group. ; )

after the nite out, i feel kinda good and warm inside. for some reason. Unknown as of now. Maybe it's just the time spent hanging out with friends. Good times. or perhaps something else. I m not sure. But anyway, it feels good. So I'm guessing it's good. : ) Lots more to ponder about in the days ahead!

I remember almost everything bout the 1st steamboat. Rite after badminton. Yee Han the steamboat master. Lots of food. Me danny daniel myron chatting. Leaw & Yi hui joining in a bit. Pang singing on stage. that was awesome! Front row seats. i rmb Somebody recorded the whole song. Wonder where that vid disappeared to. O.o i want it! Anyway, i rmb eating & drinking so much that i felt like puking (steamboat + coke = terrible combo >.<). Stayed out pretty late. IN conclusion, a nice nite out. Good ol' times. Gosh I will miss that. =(

2nd time out didnt disappoint haha. Happy Birthday Nat! Lots of fun again. As usual. Only big difference was that pang didnt sing. Damn u! =P A few absentees. T.T New face (Nat) =). Haha. will prolly see more of her in days to come heihei. ; ) Nice times!

and so As the year draws to a close, it feels weird. mixed feelings. for the first time in my life. makes me wonder a bit. Heading back to kluang 2moro. No longer a college student. gonna take some getting used to =X Post-Ausmat life... How's it gonna be like? for better or for the worse? Who knows? The future is unpredictable.

Unlike the past. and the past year has certainly been something rather special. Of cos, Eventually memories will fade. stuff will happen. things will change. But one thing i noe is that i m never gonna forget the year 2009. Incredible year. Great ppl. Awesome experiences. & ...

Eh wait!

Hahax... i went off track a bit lol. By accident. XD OMG my mind does wander. Must exert conscious self-control! urghhhh! Damnit!

All's well will end well. I sincerely hope for that. Neway goin back to kluang 2moro.

Mission IMU accomplished!

The last of a bunch of serious stuff this year which required my attention. after that freedom!

and so i went up a day early so that i woulnt have to take some big risks (u know malaysian buses =/ not to mention stupid traffic jams) and save a bundle of cash ( taxis are expensive >.<).

Hitchhiked my way up. Had Thai food (really yummy) and stayed over at my cousin's near IMU. Incidentally she's a med student there. 2.5 years of 2 hours of classes every weekday =.=

Slept. 12 straight hours. long distance travel tires me out.

woke up. a change of clothes. went for lunch at the IMU cafeteria. =/

Had a tour of the entire campus. which actually seems pretty good in comparison to sunway jb (duh). spacious even.

loitered in the com lab while waiting for the interview to start. one hour. neck feels itchy. bit nervous.

2.45: interview started.

3.00: interview finished.

and guess what?

i totally aced that interview! WOOOO!!! 1 success in 3 trials (other 2 were JPA & monash)

Feels great! totally friggin' AWESOME! of cos those questions were easy shit =.=

in fact when the time came for me to ask questions i asked so many that the guy actually (awkwardly) tried to redirect me to the admissions office =.= swt!

Bad thing is that i suddenly feel that i didnt do that well for monash ermmm well too late i guess =/ hmmm chances 50/50?

B4 i left i did notice something weird. the name of the bookstore & stationery shop in IMU: EMO BOOKSTORE. weird. life there must be pretty unpleasant. =.=lll

Took LRT to plaza rakyat station. Nando's for dinner. Bus. Home.

and Boom! here i am! writing all bout it. XD

Well apart from me rockin' that interview, this post is bout one other thing...

Time to lie down and relax.

Wooo! Let's see... trips and tours 'round JB, Genting, Kluang & Japan! Yum cha and other stuff too! Not to shabby for holiday plans eh? Cant wait!

and Yea I have a blog! So... anyway...

Guess this blog was somewut overdue. Combo of boredom and daniel's persistence finally made me do this. Not a bad thing to have somewhere to store my thoughts, i suppose. and daniel if you're reading this yes you are first. Congrats =P

So, now to think of it, i still have no idea how my blog will turn out. i wasnt really a fan of blogs until this year. have seen quite a few since then.

And so i wonder... will mine become like sean's? a serious take on matters + a few proclamations of gayness (Good job Najwa!) ? like ev's... simple and amusing? or even... ahem... last & definitely (ooops) least, Yee han's? no offence dude but your "blog" ermmm well it isnt reli fit to be a blog ainnit?

but well this is bout me. and so i digress.

One thing i know for sure though, is that simplicity is #1. Which means that this blog will probably look like this forever. oh well. =P

The rest? we'll find out. Someday.

Oh almost forgot i guess this blogging thingy is pretty exclusive in malaysia. last i saw from somewhere there were only like 20k bloggers in malaysia (may be mistaken). That's like amazingly few for a population of 22 mil. Then again, i could be wrong XD who cares?
